A little over a year ago, I joined Future as a remote software engineer based in France. It’s been an incredibly positive start to my career in tech, and I can honestly say that every step of the way has felt like the right fit. I owe a big part of this to Asseel, a former classmate, friend and now colleague, who referred me to the company. I'm so grateful he did—it was a referral that truly changed everything for me.
The recruitment process was seamless and efficient. Less than a week passed between my first interview and signing the contract. There was no drawn-out back-and-forth, no unnecessary pressure. It was fast, respectful, and most importantly, it gave me immediate confidence in the company.
When I officially joined, I quickly realized that Future had an environment that felt different. The onboarding process was thorough, and I had all the tools and support I needed to get started. But beyond the smooth onboarding, what made the real difference was the people I met along the way.
From day one, I was surrounded by kind, open, and talented individuals who are always ready to help, share knowledge, and support each other. Even though I work fully remotely, I’ve never felt disconnected or isolated. There's an amazing sense of collaboration, with everyone approaching their work with kindness and humility. People are always open to questions, and curiosity is not just welcomed—it’s encouraged. And, what’s more, my colleagues always have the perfect joke or lighthearted comment to make any day a little brighter.
One of the highlights of being part of this team is the annual week we get to spend together at the Bath office, meeting colleagues from across the globe—whether they’re based in France, the UK, or beyond. It’s a rare opportunity to step away from screens, share laughs in person, and connect with real people behind the avatars and Slack messages.
Another aspect that truly stands out is the leadership. My managers and team leads are not just skilled professionals, they’re approachable, down-to-earth, and genuinely care about our well-being and growth. It’s something I’ve really appreciated—feeling supported not just as an employee, but as a person.
On the technical side, I’ve had the chance to contribute to some great projects with solid, well-thought-out architectures. Although I hadn’t yet been involved in designing architecture myself, that’s all about to change. We’re embarking on an exciting project to rebuild one of our main React applications from scratch, using Clean Architecture principles. I’m both excited and a little nervous, but most of all, I’m incredibly grateful for the trust placed in me and the opportunity to grow through this challenge.
The flexibility and autonomy I’ve been given in my role have made a huge difference. I’m able to manage my time and tasks in a way that works for me, which has made for a much healthier work-life balance. I’ve never felt micromanaged—just trusted to do my best work.
Looking back on this past year, I’m proud of how much I’ve grown, both professionally and personally. I’ve learned a tremendous amount and had the chance to collaborate with people who genuinely inspire me. And the best part is that I know this is just the beginning.
Here’s to more learning, meaningful work, and kind humans. I’m truly thankful to be part of the journey at Future.
